Meet Junior Brigade Member Kasia Buyaki
Junior member Kasia Buyaki has been with SPVFC just a year, although her relationship with us goes back much further. Living just a mile down the road from the station house, Kasia was a student at Stony Point Elementary when she won the design competition for our 40th Anniversary t-shirt. Obviously, it was a great start to our relationship. After running her first 5k with us last year, she joined us for more adventures.
Kasia is interested in pursuing a career in medicine, so she took the Albemarle County Fire & Rescue training to become an EMT last spring. A full-time college student at PVCC, she also works part time as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) at an area rehabilitation center. In her spare time, Kasia is a Life Scout, working on becoming an Eagle Scout. Her Eagle Scout project is based on her love of reading – she wants everyone to have access to books and so is working on creating a lending library to be placed in the Stony Point Community for the purpose of sharing books with all.
Among her favorite things about being part of the brigade here are the people. She may have come here because it was close by and a good way to get experience towards determining if she wanted a career in medicine, but she stays for the people.
