Community Outreach and Events
Halloween Gathering
For the past two decades, SPVFC has provided a Halloween gathering for the youth of our Community. Members at SPVFC saw the need for a local safe gathering. As being in a rural community, often houses are too far apart to trick or treat.
Pre-COVID, gathering would include a carnival like atmosphere with booths, games, costume contests and of course, candy. Attendance would often peak with 600 or more.
For the past 3 years, we have had to modify the gatherings. We’ve had a drive through candy pick up, and most recently a trunk and treat. Both great successes.
We look forward to bringing back the Halloween Carnival in the coming years. We usually start advertising mid-September of each year.

Open House
Each year the volunteers at SPVFC like to open our doors to our community. At this event, we welcome members of our community, of all ages to check out our station and apparatus. Often we have booths from some of our partner agencies such as the Fire Marshal Office of Albemarle County, and Foresters from the Virginia Dept. of Forestry. We even occasionally have a visit from the local Medical Helicopter ‘Pegasus.’
This is a great opportunity for the members of the department and community to interact in a low stress environment, unlike after a call to 911.
During these events, it is great to be able to talk with the Firefighters and EMTs about why they join and see if it would be right for you too.
Open Houses usually happen in the spring and summer.
