Meet Lifetime Member and former chief, Greg Frazier
Greg Frazier always knew he wanted to be a firefighter when he grew up. Upon high school graduation, he joined his nearest volunteer fire department, Station Number 3 in Greene County,. Although a resident of Free Union the Greene County station was the closest one to his home. Greg served there for 12 years before moving to the Stony Point area and has been with SPVFC in since 1999.
While he pondered becoming a professional firefighter, Greg instead worked in the family construction business with his father. Unfortunately, a back injury sidelined him, forcing him to retire from both work and firefighting in 2021. The former Chief of Stony Point is now a nonactive life member and Board member of Stony Point Volunteer Fire Company, although he calls himself “just a Quartermaster” who helps where he can.
While it was the thrill of riding in the fire truck that first enticed him to become a volunteer firefighter, he stayed for the family-like atmosphere at the station. Sharing meals together and hanging out between calls built a camaraderie that fostered fun, as well as the ability to get serious and pull together, as the situation requires. It’s been that camaraderie that has helped Greg through some tough times. Firefighting has become a family affair with the Fraziers. Greg’s son, Bryston, is a volunteer firefighter at Stony Point. His wife, Lisa, who is a kindergarten teacher at Stony Point Elementary, served on the SPVFC Board in the past as well as helped with fundraising efforts.
Stony Point is not the only fire company that gets to claim Greg—Greene Station Number 3 also counts him among their lifetime members. When not hanging out at fire stations, Greg is an avid hunter and angler. And while he claims to not have the patience required for the game, he’s a devotee of golf as well.
