Dry Hydrant Installation Program
In rural areas like the Stony Point community, where water mains and conventional fire hydrants are not accessible, installation of permanent dry hydrants can offer an alternative solution for firefighting operations. Dry hydrants are non-pressurized pipe systems that draft water from nearby ponds or streams.
One end of the pipe system is installed in the water source, and the other end is available near the roadside, where firefighters can connect to the hydrant and pump from the water source. The Virginia Dry Fire Hydrant grant program provides funding to cover the costs of installation and repair of dry hydrants to support firefighting operations
Grant Program to Cover the Cost of Dry Hydrant Installation and Maintenance
The Virginia Department of Fire Programs and the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) have established a joint effort that provides state-level funding annually for the installation of dry hydrants throughout the Commonwealth.
Are you interested in the installation of a dry hydrant on land you own in Stony Point? With your approval, SPVFC can apply for the funding to cover the expenses of a new dry hydrant installation or repairs to a current hydrant. Program support is available at the request of Virginia fire departments who secure approval from local landowners. The program provides 100% of the funding necessary to cover the expenses of new installations and repairs under the program.
Installation of dry hydrants helps keep our community safe. If you’re interested in finding out if SPVFC can install a dry hydrant on your property, please fill out the form below.
